Why were Gandalf, Galadriel, and Elrond essential to the success of the quest?

Leads different groups into battle
Others submit to his authority because they recognize his power and knowledge
He is like the master chess player moving around the board and putting the pieces in place and encouraging them –
Gandalf’s whole purpose is to fight Sauron (Great Battle of the Third Age)
He is an interpreter of the times
Price: Gives up his first life; travels all over to give aid; pours out his life in service of others; he researches and finds answers

Galadriel
Foresees the danger ahead and prepares them with gifts
Galadriel’s son is Elrond
She tests the fellowship: Sam, Frodo, and Boromir
Price: She gives up some valuable gifts

Elrond

Sage advisor
Influences the fellowship
Price: Elrond loses his daughter to mortality
